CONTINUING STUFF: Go see Love Never Dies! Read New Warriors! Watch Gargoyles! Read Animal Farm! PREPARATION: Major events coming up next include the Casey Ann Hohman Memorial Association Trivia Night in St Louis on the 27th, midpoint of the Animal Farm book club on November 1, and a board game club on November 4th (playing Arkham Horror). Mark your calendars! Reflection: Day 16Yesterday was a good day! I was productive at work (well, extra-productive), plus I got to do some organizational stuff at home that I had been putting off. I watched two episodes of Gargoyles, and I even got to go out with the regular game crew and play a board game.
But the most important thing yesterday was, of course, getting ready for tonight's movie club!

The calm before the storm? CONTINUING STUFF: You know the routine! Animal Farm should be about a quarter complete (so you need to have read 2 or 3 chapters by now to be on pace), while you should watch a couple of episodes of Gargoyles, or read some New Warriors comics, in your free time :) After you do any of these things, hit the FORUM and talk about them! Not a Club: I get to play games with the Weekly Game Group tonight! That's always nice. PREPARATION: Princess Bride RSVPs close at noon tomorrow. I posted the drink on the MOVIE CLUB page as well, for those of you curious to know what my limited mixology skills will have on offer tomorrow night... Reflection: Day 15Last night was a quiet night. After dinner, we walked around and explored a bit of the growing vibe of the Prairie Trail district in Ankeny, then at home I watched some Battlestar Galactica in preparation for my weekly episode chat with Andrew (a thing we have to wrap up before TV club transitions to Babylon 5!) and then... well, that was mostly it. Like I said, a quiet night. I also don't have any pictures to show for last night, so this blog post will just be a little plain looking. I'll do better tomorrow!
Reflection: Day 14
So... this maybe isn't the perfect place to share all of my thoughts about that show. It wasn't really a great match for my tastes, let's say. If you want to talk more about it, hit the FORUM and I'll share all of my many observations and opinions. But what I do know is that Tom LOVES Phantom, and I am so glad he got to see this show. He liked some parts of it a great deal, and in other places we agree that it doesn't quite land the way it ought to. But hey... you may not have another chance to see this show. I have a feeling that once this tour is done, this puppy goes into a vault somewhere for a good long while. So go! DO!
THEATRE CLUB: LOVE NEVER DIES begins today! Get yourself to the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines to see Love Never Dies, the sequel to the Phantom of the Opera that you never thought you needed, anytime this week—final showing is Sunday! Take a picture of yourself at the Civic Center and post it on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram... and tag me! Or, if you don’t feel like taking a picture, post a written review of the show (it doesn’t have to be very long) in our FORUM. Doing either one of these things will earn you a Jawa Badge... and if you happen to be at the Civic Center TONIGHT and get a picture with me... I’ll give you TWO Jawa Badges! There is nothing more fun than going to the theatre! (Even if it’s to a show I am not overwhelmingly excited to see...) CONTINUING STUFF: Watch some Gargoyles! And, as always, keep plugging away at New Warriors and Animal Farm. PREPARATION: The first MOVIE CLUB (Princess Bride) is now only a few days away. If you are coming, click HERE and scroll down to the Princess Bride RSVP! Fill it out and secure your seats! If you want to come but don’t know where you are going, I’ll be sending my address out to the RSVP list Friday morning when I lock the reservation form down. Reflection: Day 13
The work week returns! CONTINUING STUFF: Another day of working on existing commitments... read an issue of New Warriors, watch an episode of Gargoyles, or keep going in your reading of Animal Farm! Whenever you get somewhere in any of these tasks, head to the FORUM to post about them so you can be making progress towards your badges! Not a Club: The BADGES page was updated with new rules yesterday. It is now possible to miss a couple of events throughout the year and still earn some of the most elusive badges! And an update coming today will make it a bit easier to participate in events remotely (through use of the FORUM) for those that can't physically be in the area. PREPARATION: Check your calendars and RSVP for MOVEI CLUB: Princess Bride this Friday! Oh, and get a ticket to go see Love Never Dies at the Civic Center to be part of our first THEATRE CLUB! Reflection: Day 12
It's going to be a productive day! CONTINUING STUFF: Today's mission is to watch two episodes of Gargoyles. If that doesn't tickle your fancy, read an issue of the New Warriors or get a little further in Animal Farm! Links to help you do all of these things are located on their respective pages (TV Club, Comics Club, Book Club) under EVENTS. And after you do some of these things, talk about them in the FORUM! PREPARATION: We are now only FIVE DAYS away from Movie Club: Princess Bride. The cocktail recipe is locked in and will be revealed soon, but I need your help--your RSVP helps me figure out how much stuff to buy! And, of course, Love Never Dies is at the Civic Center starting Tuesday... get tickets soon so you can participate in our first Theatre Club! Reflection: Day 11
At home, it was a lazy day of recovering from the rigors of travel. I read SO MANY COMIC BOOKS--in fact. for the first time in almost 6 months, I am completely caught up on all things X-Men! Some of them were great, some were mediocre... but I am glad to have read all of them. Though right now, I am having real emotional strife over the implications of the end of X-Men Blue and Extermination and what the events that appear to be coming next mean for Bobby Drake.
We also finished watching Netflix's recently-canceled Iron Fist series. I was very happy with Season 2, so its end makes me sad... but hopefully it is stepping aside to make room for a Daughters of the Dragon or Heroes for Hire series. That would be cool. All-in-all, it was a quiet day at home after the Market, and now today is going to be a day of catching up on a million little things! Back in Iowa! EXTRA CLUB: I'll be at the Downtown Des Moines Farmer's Market for a little while this morning (look! No notice to you at all!) and if you see me and we snap a picture together, you'll get a Jawa Badge! CONTINUING STUFF: It's a good day to read New Warriors, watch Gargoyles, or dig into Animal Farm. Head to the FORUM and chat about any of these things--I will be adding some comments there myself today! PREPARATION: Love Never Dies is at the civic center this coming week (that's a Theatre Club event--all you have to do is go and post a review on the FORUM! Or go on Tuesday and snap a picture with me and get a badge for both seeing me AND going to the show! Two for one! Oh, and please get your RSVP in for October 19th's showing of The Princess Bride (at my house). I need to get the ingredients for the custom cocktail in the perfect proportions! Reflection: Day 10
Reflection: Day 9
Happy National Coming Out Day! CONTINUING STUFF: Like yesterday, today is focused on continuing events. Read the New Warriors, keep plugging away at Animal Farm, watch some Gargoyles, or visit Las Vegas :) . Most importantly though, take your reactions to all of those things to the FORUM. I’ve not been great about keeping new posts up in there this week, but I’ll be better when I get home! Not a Club: National Coming Out Day is an important day for a lot of people. It has been very important to me at various times in my life, but not as much right now, since I like to believe I am pretty well out. But as a dear relative reminded me today with their courageous transparency, you never know when you will need to do more coming out... because who we are is in-progress, still baking, and always wonderful. So... I wish the world, and all of the awesome people in it, the courage to say what must be said and the compassion of those from whom they need it most today. I love you all. PREPARATION: We are just a week away from the Princess Bride party on the 19th (have you RSVP’d yet) BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE... there will be a Theatre Club next week as well! More details tomorrow! Reflection: Day 8
The Beast was an amazing vehicle, and it drew a lot of attention, as we traveled out to the lights and the spectacle (and an amazing dinner). Here’s the army of awesome people who just earned a Jawa Badge for hanging out in Vegas with me... and one more picture specifically me of me and Pamela to make up for a missing image from yesterday! I love it when we close the question blocks! Clearly... otherwise, I wouldn’t have used my “over-smiling” face. :P
It was a terribly fun night... and now we are back to the learning that is the focus of the trip. But I get to share some of my writing with the team tonight (something parody-ish and silly), so... I love it when one good day leads into another. It’s been one full week of BD365! ONLY FIFTY-ONE MORE TO GO! CONTINUING STUFF: Today is all about the continuing stuff! On the calendar, today is a great day to watch Gargoyles... but you can also be working towards badges by reading Animal Farm or the New Warriors... or by finding me in Vegas (after work hours...) and taking a picture with me! This is a very good time to start posting your thoughts on the FORUM as well... PREPARATION: Have I mentioned yet that October 19th is the Princess Bride viewing party? Get those RSVPs in by going to the MOVIE CLUB page! Reflection: Day 7
And, of course, once the work day ended, I was bombarded with people eager to earn a Jawa Badge! Three people did so yesterday...
